The Maui News announced that the open enrollment period for individual health insurance coverage on healthcare.gov has begun and will run until January 15. During this time, those with current health coverage through the marketplace can renew their plans.
New and returning consumers who are eligible for enhanced subsidies to reduce premiums in 2024 should take advantage of the financial assistance available through the marketplace. The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 expanded the availability of financial assistance, and the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 extended these benefits through 2025.
Insurance Commissioner Gordon Ito advised consumers to shop and compare plans to see if they were eligible for enhanced subsidies to reduce their premiums. He also emphasized the importance of understanding what a health insurance policy covers and identifying current health care needs such as services, health care providers, and prescription drugs.
Consumers should enroll by December 15 for coverage that starts January 1. For more information on health insurance, visit cca.hawaii.gov/ins/consumers/health.
