New College Basketball Crown Tournament from Fox Sports Set to Debut in 2025 as NIT Rival

In 2025, Fox Sports will be hosting the NIT tournament, which is a consolation tournament for men’s college basketball teams that did not qualify for the NCAA Tournament. The tournament will consist of 16 schools, with two automatic bids going to Big Ten, Big 12, and Big East conference squads that have television agreements with Fox. The remaining teams will be at-large participants.

The NIT will take place in Vegas’ MGM Garden Arena and MGM Arena from March 31 to April 6. AEG is a presenting sponsor of the event, which will be televised on both Fox and FS1. This year’s final matchup between Indiana State and Seton Hall will take place on ESPN.

The NIT has been around since 1938 and serves as a consolation tournament for teams that missed out on the NCAAAs. However, some teams opted out of participating in the NIT this year in order to focus on the transfer portal. Rick Pitino’s St. John’s was one of the teams that chose to skip the NIT this season.
