Team India, T20 world champions, return home on charter flight with Rohit Sharma sharing photo with trophy

The Indian cricket team has finally departed from Barbados and is heading back to Delhi on a chartered flight. They were stranded for three days after winning the T20 World Cup by beating South Africa in the final. The special Air India charter flight, named AIC24WC – “Air India Champions 24 World Cup,” took off from Barbados and is expected to reach Delhi on Thursday morning.

Captain Rohit Sharma shared a photo on Instagram from inside the aircraft, holding the trophy, captioned “Coming home.” The flight arranged by the BCCI includes the Indian squad, support staff, players’ families, board officials, and media members. The team clinched the title with a thrilling seven-run victory over South Africa in the final.

The Boeing 777 aircraft that landed in Barbados from New Jersey, USA, caught the attention of airport staff due to its size. The plane’s arrival in Barbados was delayed, causing their departure to be postponed. Upon their return to India, the players will be honored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a road-show is planned in Mumbai to celebrate their victory.

Hurricane Beryl is moving towards Jamaica, adding urgency to the team’s departure from Barbados.
