The authorities of the Gaza Strip, controlled by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), have denounced on Thursday that Israeli forces continue to tighten the siege of the Indonesian Hospital, in the north of the enclave. Hamas spokesman Ashraf al Qidra stated that there are no guarantees about safe corridors for evacuating patients from the hospital, which has been under attack by Israeli forces.
Qidra also warned that “the occupation could commit any stupidity against those who are being evacuated from the Indonesian Hospital” after at least 12 people were killed in attacks against the facility. He stressed that Israel seeks to “convert the hospital into a military base after its crimes at Al Shifa Hospital,” where several Israeli troops were injured and killed over the past week.
According to Qidra, there are currently 700 people being held in the hospital, including nearly 260 “wounded and sick” individuals. He also noted that there is no news about evacuation efforts at Al Shifa Hospital, where dozens of medical workers and displaced people have been trapped for days without water, electricity or food.
Meanwhile, Munir al Bursh, director-general of Gaza’s Ministry of Health, said on Thursday that it has not been possible to remove or count dead bodies from Israel’s attacks on the Indonesian Hospital. He added that several buildings in the complex have been destroyed and more than 100 patients require urgent surgeries due to limited medical staff. Bursh argued that Israel’s attacks on hospitals seek to put an end to all healthcare services in northern Gaza.
The attacks on hospitals in Gaza have been condemned by Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, who called them a clear violation of International Humanitarian Law. She urged all countries with close relations with Israel to use their influence and capabilities to call on Israel to end its atrocities against Palestinians.
