Art and Science Unite at El Aleph Festival to Explore the Impact of AI on Society: Challenges and Possibilities

The ninth edition of El Aleph: Festival of Art and Science is set to take place from May 8 to 19, with the theme “Challenges of artificial intelligence and other intelligences.” Juan Ayala, the technical secretary of Planning and Programming of UNAM Culture, stated that this event will provide a platform for dialogue, listening, and reflection on the impact of AI tools across various disciplines of human knowledge.

The festival will feature over 250 participants in more than 70 activities and 90 functions, including talks, workshops, plays, music, dance, and cinema. Prominent scientists and international artists will enrich the experience of attendees over a period of ten days.

The visual conceptual art exhibition “Face to Face for Mexico” by Brian Eno will be showcased in several venues throughout the festival. Another venue will house six exhibitions utilizing artificial intelligence tools. The collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of Mexico City and the Colegio de San Ildefonso has allowed for a diverse and captivating program that explores the potential implications of AI in society.

One highlight of the festival is a film titled “Dwellers among the waters,” powered by AI technology, which questions human conditions and realities through visual pieces. A talk by Hannah Price will explore how AI can be used to enhance storytelling expertise while José Gordon’s presentation discusses different perspectives on AI across various fields of reflection.

Overall, El Aleph: Festival of Art and Science promises to be an engaging event that delves into the challenges presented by AI technology in today’s world.
