In November 2023, public schools in Hawaii were awarded $9,300 in grants from the Bayer Fund-Hawaii Science Education Grant. The recipients of the grants included Ewa Makai Middle School, H.P. Baldwin High School, ʻĪao School, ʻIlima Intermediate School, Kaimukī Middle School, Kīhei Charter School, Lahaina Intermediate School, Lahainaluna High School, McKinley High School.
The funds were used to support various STEM-related activities such as a macro propagation project, drone building program, hydroponics project and the purchase of equipment and supplies for earth science, marine biology, life science and forensic science classes.
The Bayer Fund grant program was established in 2005 with the goal of providing Hawai’i public schools with additional tools and resources to enhance science education. This initiative aims to encourage students to consider pursuing a career in the sciences in the future.
The grant program is available twice a year and is open to public schools on O’ahu
