Brazil has been awarded the 2027 women’s World Cup, marking the first time the tournament will be held in South America. The campaign for the bid, titled “It’s All Ready,” highlighted that Brazil already has the necessary infrastructure in place to host the event. This readiness can be attributed to the preparations made for previous major sporting events such as the men’s World Cup in 2014 and various Pan-American Games, Olympic Games, Copa America tournaments, and other events.
The upcoming women’s World Cup presents a unique opportunity to promote gender equality in sports. According to Julia Costa, director of women’s football promotion within the Sports Ministry, hosting this tournament is an essential step towards making women’s football more mainstream and accessible. The CBF estimates that investments in temporary structures for the tournament will total USD 13 million, which is less than 10 percent of what was spent on the 2014 men’s tournament. However, it is worth noting that costs are often exceeded once all aspects are taken into account.
Brazil has a long history of successfully hosting major sporting events. In addition to hosting previous men’s and women’s World Cup tournaments, Brazil has also hosted several Pan-American Games and Olympic Games. Hosting these events requires significant resources and planning, but with Brazilian government support and expertise, it is clear that this country has a proven track record of delivering high-quality sporting experiences for athletes and fans alike.
