Breaking Down Barriers: Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Sets Another World Record in 400m Hurdles

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, a world record holder and Olympic champion, shaved off 0.03 seconds at the US Trials in Eugene on Sunday to set a new world record of 50.65 in the 400m hurdles. The race was one of the fastest in history, with four women clocking times under 53 seconds, but McLaughlin-Levrone still managed to dominate by nearly two seconds.

From the start, McLaughlin-Levrone took the lead and never looked back. She surged ahead of her competitors, including Anna Cockrell who finished second in a personal best time of 52.64, and Jasmine Jones who finished third in a personal best time of 52.77. McLaughlin-Levrone’s strong performance allowed her to cross the finish line with a commanding lead.

McLaughlin-Levrone’s impressive performance at Hayward Field in Eugene is not new to her, as she has set four out of her five world records there. She first set a world record of 51.90 in the 400m hurdles at the US Trials in 2021 before lowering it to 51.46 to win Olympic gold in Tokyo later that year.
