Breaking Down Barriers: West Virginia’s New Renner Behavioral Health Program Launches with Community Celebration

A grand opening ceremony and open house were held to celebrate the launch of the new Renner Behavioral Health Program at the former Teletech building in Moundsville. The program, a partnership between WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute and WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial Hospital, has been operational for about a month in the newly renovated space.

The Marshall County Chamber of Commerce hosted the event, which was attended by community officials and dignitaries. WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial Hospital received a $2.25 million grant from the Renner Foundation to help establish the program, with some of the funds used to renovate the clinic space.

During the ceremony, Douglass Harrison, president and CEO of WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital, highlighted the importance of addressing behavioral health services in West Virginia and across the country. He stressed that it is crucial to break down stigmas surrounding mental health and encouraged physicians to initiate referral processes for individuals who require mental health services.

Marshall County Commission President Mike Ferro expressed pride in having WVU Medicine expand its offerings in their community and acknowledged the significance of this new program. He emphasized that recognizing mental health as just as essential as physical health marks a positive step towards addressing mental health needs in the region.
