Lawn care has been traditionally seen as a male-dominated activity, but the Raising Men & Women Lawn Care program through Student Startup aims to change that. The program teaches teens how to provide lawn care services, start their own businesses, and become successful adults.
Eli Isaacs, the program lead, believes that lawn mowing can be a powerful tool in helping teenage boys transition into manhood and build confidence in their abilities. The program involves teens mowing lawns for free for people in need. Once they have mowed 50 lawns, they earn $500 worth of mowing equipment to start their own business.
One participant, Darius Hancock, has found the program to be fun and educational in learning about mowing and running a business. He plans to apply the skills he has learned to starting his own mowing business in the future. Similarly, fellow participant Jaquin Santivanez has found the program valuable in teaching him about giving back to the community and helping those in need.
Liam Ramsey also sees the program as an opportunity to help others and bring positivity to people’s lives. Through volunteering and mentoring, the program aims to help students develop skills in mowing lawns and running businesses while also instilling values of community service and helping those in need. Participants express satisfaction in their ability to give back to the community and improve the lives of others through their mowing services.
