The Charlotte Hornets have announced that Charles Lee will be their next head coach, making him the 12th coach in franchise history. Currently the top assistant with the Boston Celtics, Lee has previously worked with the Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks. During his time with Boston, he helped the team achieve a 64-18 record, the best in the NBA and the fourth most wins in franchise history.
Before his NBA coaching career, Lee started at his home university of Bucknell, where he played four years of college basketball. He also played professionally overseas for four seasons. Lee expressed his excitement about joining the Hornets and working with the talented young core of players. He believes in the passion for basketball in the Carolinas and is eager to get to work in Charlotte.
The decision to hire Lee comes after former head coach Steve Clifford stepped down in early April. With Clifford’s departure, the Hornets have expressed their enthusiasm about bringing Lee on board. The team is looking forward to introducing Lee, his wife Lindsey, and his daughters to the Hornets community and partnering with him to build something special in the Carolinas. A news conference will be held after the conclusion of Boston’s playoff run to officially welcome Lee as the new head coach of the Charlotte Hornets.
