CNN and Rolex Join Forces to Highlight Environmental Challenges While World Nature Photography Awards Recognize Stunning Images of Planet Earth’s Beauty and Fragility

The CNN editorial series Call to Earth is committed to covering the environmental challenges our planet faces and highlighting solutions. To help raise awareness and educate people about key sustainability issues, Rolex’s Perpetual Planet initiative has partnered with CNN.

Meanwhile, in the world of photography, the World Nature Photography Awards have recognized two incredible images for their excellence. Tracey Lund from the United Kingdom won first place in the animal portraits category with a striking photograph of two gannets fighting over a fish in Scotland’s Shetland Islands. Lund captured this moment using a DSLR camera in waterproof housing while on holiday.

In addition, Ivan Pedretti from Italy was awarded first place in the Planet Earth’s landscapes and environments category for his enchanting photo of winter in Stokksnes, Iceland. Pedretti highlighted the contrast between the white mountains and black dunes in his image, showcasing the beauty of this unique landscape.

Established in 2020, the World Nature Photography Awards aim to promote photography while also supporting the planet by planting a tree for each entry into the competition. The organization believes that photography can inspire people to see the world differently and change their habits for a better future. Adrian Dinsdale, co-founder of WNPA, expressed admiration for the quality of entries received for this year’s awards and emphasized their commitment to promoting sustainability through photography.
