Congressmen Propose Sanctions Against Azerbaijan for Ongoing Human Rights Violations

A bill imposing sanctions on Azerbaijan was introduced by more than two dozen American congressmen on Friday. Authored by Dina Titus and Gus Bilirakis, the bill includes individual sanctions against over 40 Azerbaijani officials and security forces. The initial list of names targeted for sanctions was 41, but it was later expanded to 44.

The resolution proposes imposing sanctions on Azerbaijan for ongoing human rights violations, including crimes against Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh. According to Politico magazine, the bill has sparked controversy and garnered attention from various media outlets.

Dina Titus, one of the authors of the bill, stated that sanctions should be imposed on Azerbaijani officials for ethnic cleansing against Armenians in Artsakh and repression of the opposition. The issue of sanctions against Azerbaijani officials is expected to be a topic of debate and discussion in the coming weeks as the bill makes its way through the legislative process.

The authors of the document believe that taking action against Azerbaijan is necessary to address the violations of human rights and to stand up against injustice. The bill has already sparked controversy among lawmakers and diplomats alike, with some arguing that it could lead to an escalation in tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
