Connecticut and Purdue shake up college basketball poll rankings

The latest week in men’s basketball has seen some familiar changes in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. Connecticut and Purdue remain the top two teams, with Connecticut holding onto the number one spot and Purdue securing second place. Both teams have continued to impress with dominant performances, which has been reflected in the number of No. 1 votes they have received.

Houston has climbed back up to third position, while there is a close battle between fourth and fifth place with just 12 poll points separating the next four spots. Marquette has made a significant leap to fourth place, while North Carolina has slipped to fifth after losing to Clemson. Arizona and Kansas have also experienced some movement in the rankings, with Arizona moving up to sixth and Kansas dropping down to seventh.

The top 10 is rounded out by Duke, Tennessee, and Iowa State. South Carolina is making a strong case for a place in the top 10 after jumping nine places, while Kentucky and Wisconsin have been moving in opposite directions. After losing four games in a row, Wisconsin has fallen 12 spots, while Kentucky has dropped five places following three consecutive home losses.

Indiana State has made an impressive entrance into the poll at number 24, marking their first ranking since their historic 1979 season. Now among the top 25, Saint Mary’s, Oklahoma, Virginia, and Colorado State have regained their positions in the rankings. Among the recent dropouts are Utah State, San Diego State
