And on Saturday, April 1, 27 of these students from Berry Creek Middle, Eagle Valley Middle and Battle Mountain Higher College decided to make the trek to the University of Colorado Colorado Springs campus to compete.

The state regional qualifier occurred earlier this year at the Colorado State University Pueblo campus, exactly where 20 middle schools and 20 higher schools from across the state competed to qualify for state. Teams that placed in the leading 14 of all teams in the regional competitors moved on to state.

This year, Berry Creek placed 10th (with ten leading-ten placements from students), Battle Mountain ninth (with 13 leading-ten placements) and Eagle Valley Middle placed 13th at the regional competitors (with 4 leading-ten placements).
