Defense Ministry Increases Funding for Local Self-Defense Units in Response to Finance Ministry’s Blockage

Defense Minister Yoav Galant has recently approved a series of measures aimed at improving the work conditions of local self-defense unit commanders. However, the Finance Ministry has blocked their employment as civilian workers within the IDF. In response, the Defense Ministry will increase payments to municipalities that will be used to raise the salaries of local self-defense unit commanders and create new positions for their deputies.

The minister has also approved programs for training and retraining commanders and a project for acquiring equipment, ammunition, and weapons for self-defense units. These measures are part of ongoing efforts to support and enhance the vital work carried out by local self-defense units across the country. By addressing issues related to employment conditions, salaries, and equipment for commanders, the Defense Ministry aims to strengthen the capabilities and readiness of these units to respond effectively to security challenges in their communities.

The approval of these measures underscores the government’s commitment to supporting local self-defense units and ensuring that they have the resources and support needed to fulfill their important role in safeguarding their communities. The Defense Ministry recognizes that local self-defense units play a critical role in protecting communities from various threats, including terrorism, crime, and natural disasters. As such, it is essential that these units have access to adequate funding, training, and equipment to carry out their duties effectively.
