Ding Xuexiang’s Emphasis on Scientific Spirit: Building China into a Global Sci-Tech Superpower

Beijing Science and Technology Week, which is held in conjunction with China’s 2024 National Science and Technology Week from May 25 to June 1, aims to create a social environment that values science and fosters innovation. The event underscores the importance of cultivating the next generation of scientists to ensure China’s continued growth in technology.

During his visit to the Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ding Xuexiang emphasized the importance of promoting the spirit of scientists in building China into a sci-tech powerhouse. He urged efforts to gather wisdom and strength to achieve this goal. Ding, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, highlighted the need for scientists to uphold their patriotic, innovative, practical, dedicated, collaborative, and educative spirit. He mentioned that it was the deep patriotism and commitment to serving their country that led older generations of scientists to remarkable success.

Ding stressed that more researchers should take on the mission of achieving high-level sci-tech self-reliance and strength to contribute to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. He recognized young people as driving innovation in science and technology and encouraged elementary school students to maintain their interest in exploration through science and technology. Li Shulei, another member of the Political Bureau and head of the Publicity Department at CPC Central Committee also attended the event.
