Discover the Innovative Evolution of The Charles H. Wright Museum: Enhanced Exhibits, Upgraded Theater and Continued Expansion

The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, commonly known as The Wright, has been an educational resource for Detroiters and visitors alike since 1966, with a focus on African American history. Over the years, the museum has undergone expansions and introduced new exhibits, upgraded its technology, and expanded its performance theater.

One of the newest permanent exhibits at the museum is “Honoring the Life and Legacy of Judge Damon J. Keith.” This exhibit utilizes innovative technology to take viewers on a journey through Judge Keith’s life, starting from his childhood to his time as a federal district judge. The technology allows for updates to be made easily whenever new information about Judge Keith becomes available.

In addition to enhancing its exhibits, The Wright has revamped its theater to focus on performances including music, poetry, and film. The General Motors Theater, now open for use and rentals, has been updated with state-of-the-art theatrical equipment, surround sound systems, and comfortable seating.
