Ellen DeGeneres: Surviving ‘America’s Most Hated Person’ and Moving Forward with Portia

Ellen DeGeneres opened up about the difficult experience she faced amid allegations of a toxic work environment on her talk show during her first show of her “Ellen’s Last Stand… Up Tour” in Los Angeles on Wednesday night. She spoke about how the last few years have taken a toll on her ego and self-esteem, acknowledging the negative experiences she has been through.

DeGeneres addressed the fallout from a 2020 BuzzFeed News report that led to the cancelation of her show in 2021. She mentioned the negative experiences her employees had with executive producers and the allegations of sexual misconduct and racism. Despite making an on-air apology and firing senior producers, the show still came to an end in 2021.

The comedian also discussed how she became the “most hated person in America,” as she reflected on how extreme reactions in the entertainment industry take a toll on mental health and well-being. She spoke about dealing with people who either love or hate you, with haters often being the loudest voices, even after making jokes about her experiences.

DeGeneres revealed that she realized how much those words impacted others, especially after becoming more aware of their power and influence in society. She emphasized that even though she has made mistakes, it is important to learn from them and continue growing as a person.

Finally, DeGeneres discussed how the ordeal had impacted her wife, Portia de Rossi, and how they both had been laying low for a while. Despite everything, DeGeneres emphasized that their relationship is stronger than ever before, and they are ready to move forward together.

Overall, Ellen DeGeneres spoke openly about her struggles with mental health and well-being amidst allegations of toxicity on her talk show during her first show since its cancellation in 2021.
