Making Doulas More Accessible and Widely Utilized in Healthcare

The Schubert Center for Child Studies at Case Western Reserve University is teaming up with Pediatric Grand Rounds at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital to host a lecture on promoting positive pregnancy and infant health outcomes in Greater Cleveland. The event, titled “Community-led Solutions for Promoting Positive Pregnancy and Infant Health Outcomes in Greater Cleveland: Normalizing Access and Utilization of Doulas within Health Systems,” will take place on Thursday, March 28, at 8 a.m. in the Amphitheater at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital.

The speakers for the event include Angela Newman-White, the executive director of First Year Cleveland, Jazmin Long, the chief operating and development officer at Birthing Beautiful Communities, and Heather Marie Rice, a clinician and professor at Cleveland State University. These leaders are dedicated to reducing infant mortality rates and improving maternal outcomes in the greater Cleveland area. They will discuss the impact of doula services on positive pregnancy outcomes, as well as barriers to accessing these services that are now covered by Medicaid in Ohio. Additionally, they will provide tips for healthcare providers and pediatric professionals on how to promote doula services to pregnant women.
