The European Commission has approved the payment of Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan, totaling 11 billion euros. Key measures in the plan include the closure of irregular landfills through the national waste management program and reforms in the education system. An update in May increased the goals associated with the fifth payment request to 54, as Italy accomplished two objectives earlier than expected. However, further clarification is needed before the payment can be made for one objective related to public procurement and concessions framework.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed her happiness over the approval of the fifth installment, stating that Italy exceeded the goals set for this payment. She emphasized that this funding from the European Commission is a positive sign for Italy and its citizens, proving that the government is on track with its recovery and resilience objectives despite doubts from some quarters.
