European Union’s Commitment to Secure Ukraine: Long-Term Support and Investment in Peace and Security

The European Union and its member states have pledged to provide long-term security commitments to Ukraine, with the aim of assisting the country in defending itself, countering destabilization efforts, and preventing future attacks. As part of this agreement, the EU has promised economic, military, and industrial support as well as assistance with energy transition and nuclear power safety. Additionally, the parties will share intelligence and satellite images.

The annual budget of the Ukraine aid fund within the European Peace Fund for this year is five billion euros, with the possibility of additional investments until 2027. The EU has committed to expediting and enhancing the delivery of all necessary military aid to Ukraine. Moreover, it has pledged ongoing support for Ukraine’s membership efforts and training support for its Defense Forces.

Upon arriving at the meeting, President Zelenskyi expressed satisfaction that membership negotiations between the EU and Ukraine have finally begun. He also expressed gratitude for the recent decision by G7 countries concerning frozen Russian funds which will be used to repay a loan taken out to support the war in Ukraine. Zelenskyi voiced concerns about potential loosening of sanctions on Russian oligarchs and stressed the importance of preparations for the next peace summit. He highlighted that this matter was not just important for Ukraine but for the entire world.

In Brussels on Thursday, representatives from both sides reached an agreement aimed at strengthening their relationship while providing long-term security commitments to Ukraine. This agreement signifies a geostrategic investment in peace and security by the European Union (EU) as it pledges ongoing support for Ukraine’s membership efforts.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces will receive additional capitalization through an annual budget of five billion euros within the European Peace Fund this year. This budget comes with a possibility of additional investments until 2027 based on recommendations from Council member states.

As part of this agreement, both sides have committed to training support for Ukrainian Defense Forces. The EU sees its enlargement as a crucial aspect of maintaining peace and security in Europe.

President Zelenskyi arrived at
