In today’s global economy, we have instant access to a vast array of products and services from all corners of the world, including local produce, exotic fruits, affordable clothing, high-tech gadgets, and vacation packages. The European economy is diverse and has active sectors in industry, agriculture, energy, transport, construction, manufacturing, tourism, and services. These sectors provide millions of jobs in various industries.
However, these economic activities also have a significant impact on the environment and contribute to climate change. The European economy relies heavily on resources such as materials, energy, land, water, human capital and labor to produce goods and services. Unfortunately, our current production methods are not sustainable as they deplete resources faster than they can be replenished and pollute the environment beyond its capacity to handle it.
We consume resources at an unsustainable rate in Europe. Moreover, transportation of goods and people is contributing significantly to greenhouse gas emissions and pollution. When we are done with these goods they become waste further adding to environmental pollution. The impact of Europe’s consumption goes beyond its borders due to globalization.
