Richard Tugman has been named as the interim president and CEO of Centra Health in Lynchburg. Tugman, who has served as the CEO of Piedmont Community Health Plan since 2016, previously held the position of interim CEO at Centra in 2021. Thomas Nygaard, M.D., Chair of Centra’s Board of Directors, expressed gratitude to Amy Carrier for her contributions to the organization and wished her success in her future endeavors.
Tugman’s deep understanding of the organization and its people makes him well-suited to lead Centra during this transition period while a national search for a permanent CEO is conducted. The announcement was made on Thursday with a transition committee appointed to advise Tugman in his new role.
As a subsidiary of Centra, Tugman’s prior experience with the organization gives the board confidence that he will effectively lead Centra during this time. The board looks forward to working with Tugman as they search for a new, permanent CEO to lead the organization in the future.
