Fighting Hepatitis B: Nutrition and Lifestyle Tips to Boost Immune System and Reduce Risks of Liver Damage

In Vietnam, about 10 million people are living with hepatitis B, a liver infection caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV) that can lead to serious liver damage such as cirrhosis and liver cancer. To combat this disease, it is crucial for patients to seek examination and treatment at a specialized medical facility.

MSc. Nguyen Anh Duy Tung from Nutrihome Nutrition Center emphasizes the importance of a scientific and balanced diet that includes essential nutrient groups to strengthen the immune system, improve liver function, and enhance treatment effectiveness for hepatitis B. Adding drinks rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants can help protect liver cells and support the body’s recovery process from hepatitis B infection.

Milk is an excellent source of high-quality protein that helps strengthen the immune system, promote liver cell repair, aid in calcium absorption and vitamin D utilization. Young coconut water is rich in nutrients that support liver health and boost the production of important liver enzymes with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Turmeric starch water contains curcumin, which inhibits HBV infection and proliferation. Green or black tea is rich in antioxidants that can prevent viral infections and support liver function.

Coffee has also been found beneficial for reducing fat accumulation in the liver, promoting anti-inflammation, decreasing virus levels in the bloodstream. It is essential for individuals with hepatitis B to have regular check-ups, take prescribed medication as directed by their doctor while maintaining a healthy lifestyle by avoiding alcohol, cigarettes, salted foods, sugary beverages or excessive fats intake. Supplementing with natural essences like S. Marianum or Wasabia can further support liver function and prevent complications of cirrhosis or cancer.

In conclusion, consuming a balanced diet rich in nutrient-dense beverages such as milk
