On Wednesday, French President Emmanuel Macron showcased his football skills by playing a charity match alongside former football stars Didier Drogba, Didier Deschamps, and Eden Hazard. The game was organized to raise funds for children in hospital, with Macron scoring a penalty against a goalkeeper who did not move, helping his team defeat healthcare professionals from Plaisir coached by former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger 5-3.
This was not the first time Macron participated in a charity football match as he had previously scored a penalty in a similar event in 2021. The Varieties Club of France (VCF), which has organized over 2,500 benefit matches since its inception in 1971, attracted star names like former France coach Laurent Blanc to the game.
The VCF is known for attracting renowned players and raising funds for good causes. Brigitte Macron’s hospital foundation chaired by her husband established in 1989 focuses on raising funds for children and teenagers undergoing hospital treatment. This charity match was an effort to support children and adolescents in hospitals and improve their daily lives.
