Restaurant business owner arrested for alleged sexual assaults in Gaslamp area

Geoffrey Enrico Cole, a former restaurateur in the Gaslamp Quarter, was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting two acquaintances at his downtown business, Chefs SD on F Street. The incidents occurred on May 27, 2023. The San Diego Police Department confirmed Cole’s arrest on charges of sexual battery and indecent exposure. He was booked into county jail and is expected to be arraigned on Monday.

The news of Cole’s arrest came just days after a grand opening ceremony for his new restaurant, Brunch After Dark (BAD), where he was not in custody. In a statement posted on his Instagram page, Cole maintained his innocence and stated that he was unaware of the allegations and the identities of the alleged victims. He also announced that he would temporarily halt all current business activities in San Diego until further notice.

The investigation into the incidents is ongoing as authorities gather more information regarding the accusations against Cole. Despite his denial of the allegations, the legal process will continue to unfold as the case progresses. The San Diego community is awaiting further developments in this case as it raises concerns about safety and accountability in local businesses.

Cole had previously owned several restaurants in San Diego before being forced to close them due to financial difficulties. His latest restaurant, BAD, was set to open its doors just weeks ago but has since been shut down following the allegations against him.

As the investigation continues, it remains to be seen what consequences Cole will face if found guilty of these charges. However, one thing is clear: this case highlights the need for greater accountability and transparency in local businesses.

In an era where social media has become an integral part of many people’s lives, it’s no surprise that businesses are taking advantage of this platform to market themselves and connect with their customers. But when those same businesses are accused of wrongdoing or misconduct, they have a responsibility to address those allegations and take appropriate action.

As such, it’s important for consumers to do their due diligence when choosing places to eat and drink in their communities. By supporting establishments that prioritize safety and accountability above all else, we can help create a more positive dining experience for everyone involved.
