On Thursday night, the New York Giants selected Malik Nabers with the No. 6 pick in the NFL draft. The team was hoping to fill a void left by Odell Beckham Jr., who was picked in the first round back in 2014 and has been missing ever since. Nabers is known for his physicality, elite ball skills, and route-running ability, having caught 89 passes for 1,569 yards and 14 touchdowns in an impressive season at LSU.
Despite quarterback Daniel Jones’ recovery from ACL surgery and uncertainty about his availability for the start of the season, some thought the Giants might trade up to select a quarterback. However, with Chicago, Washington, and New England all taking quarterbacks with the top three picks, the Giants stuck with Nabers. Jones led the team to one playoff berth in 2022 since becoming the starter in 2019 as the No. 6 overall pick.
The Giants struggled offensively last season, finishing with a 6-11 record and missing out on playoffs after making it in 2022. With Darius Slayton, Wan’Dale Robinson, Jalin Hyatt, and Isaiah Hodgins already on board as receivers on their roster, Nabers will join a group that includes him. It has been over three years since Beckham surpassed 1,000 yards in a season for this franchise’s last receiver to do so – during his standout years from 2014 to 2016 when he consistently put up big numbers.
