Lakewood Church shooting officers to receive mental health support

In the wake of the Lakewood Church shooting, law enforcement leaders in Houston are taking proactive measures to ensure that officers involved receive mental health care. This comes after a gunman opened fire in the church’s lobby, leading to a shootout between the suspect and law enforcement. The suspect, Genesse Ivonne Moreno, was shot and killed by an officer with the Houston Police Department and an officer with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.

The Houston Police Officers’ Union has announced that their officer involved in the shooting, as well as responding officers, will have access to peer support teams from the department and union. They will also receive any necessary psychological treatment. The union has also reached out to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission to offer mental health resources to their officer involved in the shooting.

Both officers have been placed on administrative leave while an investigation is ongoing. It is a crucial step to ensure that they receive the support and care they need during this time. It is essential to provide resources and support for law enforcement officers involved in traumatic and high-stress situations like this. The mental health and well-being of officers are just as important as their physical safety.
