A recent study assessed the impact of the HRV virus on hospitalized patients between 2020 and 2022. The examination of 884 sick and hospitalized patients revealed that adults experienced an increase in lung infections, while young children exhibited bronchiolitis and stridor, and children and teenagers experienced asthma attacks.
The study findings challenged the notion that the HRV virus is harmless, with severe morbidity more pronounced among children and the elderly. A significant portion of elderly patients required oxygen, while a considerable number of children needed ventilation and care in the intensive care unit.
Researchers concluded that infection with the HRV virus could be a significant cause of hospitalization in both children and adults. They emphasized the importance of practicing basic hygiene measures, using masks, and maintaining hand hygiene to prevent the spread of the virus, especially to vulnerable populations. By following recommended hygiene practices and taking precautions when sick, individuals can reduce the risk of transmitting the virus to others, particularly those who are more susceptible to complications.
