Hungarian football star Barnabas Varga suffered a serious injury during a collision with Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn while playing in Euro 2024. At the age of 29, he fractured his cheekbone and underwent surgery in Stuttgart, Germany. Fortunately, Varga was released from the hospital on Wednesday and is now recovering at home in Hungary.
In a message posted on Ferencvaros’ website, Varga expressed his gratitude for the support he has received following his injury. He mentioned that he is glad to be back home and is now focusing on his recovery. Varga remains positive about his rehabilitation process and is determined to return to the field as soon as possible.
Hungary captain Dominik Szoboszlai was visibly emotional during the game in which Varga was injured and later criticized the medical staff’s response time. However, Uefa denied any delays in the medical treatment provided to Varga at Stuttgart Arena. The following day, Hungary’s coach, Marco Rossi, along with his coaching staff and player Endre Botka, visited Varga to show their support for him during his recovery process.
