The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Mayo Clinic Health System have come together to offer a unique program that educates people about the medical field. This program is open to a wide range of individuals, including high school and college students, working adults, and retirees. Dr. Timothy Young from Mayo Clinic Health System emphasized the inclusivity of the program, stating that all are welcome to participate.
The innovative program will take place over 6 consecutive Mondays at UW-Eau Claire, with each week focusing on a different topic related to medical education. Participants will engage in interactive activities aimed at providing them with a realistic glimpse into the medical field. The ultimate goal of the program is to help individuals determine if pursuing a career in medicine is the right path for them by giving them a taste of medical school.
Dr. Young highlighted that no prior medical knowledge is assumed for participants, and the program starts with basic concepts and gradually builds on them to provide a comprehensive understanding of the medical field. Through this program, participants will gain valuable insights into the inner workings of the human body and learn about various aspects of medicine.
Dr. Julie Anderson, Director of UW-EC’s Health Careers Center, expressed excitement about the program and how it offers unique opportunities for students. Through collaboration with Mayo Clinic Health System, students have access to job shadowing, research opportunities, as well as other resources that can help them further their careers in medicine. The medical academy program is yet another exciting opportunity for students to engage with the medical field in a meaningful way.
The program is set to begin on April 1st, with more information on registration available on its website. Overall, this collaboration between UW-Eau Claire and Mayo Clinic Health System aims to provide an enriching and educational experience for individuals interested in pursuing a career in medicine or seeking more information about this exciting field.
