The Knesset Committee on Internal Affairs and Environment has made a decision to extract 1.14 square kilometers of the Park HaCarmel nature reserve and transfer it to Dalyat el-Carmel. This move will retroactively legitimize housing construction that has already taken place on private lands located within the reserve’s territory.
The land withdrawal from the reserve is part of a larger urban development plan approved in 2020, which includes the transfer of this territory to Israel’s largest Druze settlement. As a result, the city’s area is expected to increase from 8.97 square meters to 12.26 square meters, with its population projected to reach 30,000 people by 2060. Currently, there are two development plans pending approval for Daliat el-Karmel, one for 3,200 housing units and another for 700 units.
