Architect Samuel Gordon will be hosting the final installment of this season’s Science Saturdays on May 11 at 11 a.m. at the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences in Loveladies. This talk, titled “When Science Hits Home,” will provide insights into the net zero architectural designs he has been implementing in local residences for years.
Gordon has a long history with LBI, having visited as a child and attending classes at the Foundation from a young age. After receiving a degree in architecture from Temple University in 1986, he moved to the Island full-time and completed an apprenticeship. In 1992, he founded Samuel Gordon Architects, focusing primarily on private homes on LBI.
After attending a conference at Google headquarters in 2008, Gordon gained the knowledge needed to design energy-efficient homes. His personal home in High Bar Harbor served as a testing ground for environmentally-conscious elements, leading to the design of net zero homes. The upcoming discussion at LBIF will cover topics such as solar panels and geothermal wells, highlighting how these elements can make a home more comfortable and reduce operating costs to zero.
Registration for this event can be done online on the LBIF website or through email invitations sent to subscribers. All Science Saturday presentations this season are free to attend.
