Legendary Jewish Pitcher Ken Holtzman Dies at 78: A Career Spanning More Than Two Decades and Three World Series Rings.

The Chicago Cubs announced the passing of Ken Holtzman, a legendary Jewish pitcher in Major League Baseball, at the age of 78. Throughout his illustrious career from 1965 to 1979, Holtzman played for the Oakland Athletics, Cubs, New York Yankees, and Baltimore Orioles, amassing a record of 174-150 and a 3.49 ERA.

Holtzman achieved more wins than Sandy Koufax, a legendary pitcher for the Dodgers, by winning 165 games over 12 seasons. His early years were spent with the Cubs where he pitched two no-hitters, one of which was thrown without a single strikeout. After the 1971 season, Holtzman was traded to the Oakland Athletics where he joined a star-studded rotation that secured three consecutive World Series championships for the team starting in 1972. He made All-Star appearances in 1972 and 1973 and won a career-high 21 games in 1973.
