Life Science Reit reduces dividend payment due to economic challenges delaying rollout

The specialist property fund, Life Science Reit (LABS), has announced that it will be halving its dividends for 2023. This means that the second payment of the year will be reduced from 3p to 1p per share. Despite reporting strong progress in its annual results for the year ending on 31 December, LABS faced a number of challenges such as economic uncertainty, occupiers delaying rental decisions, and high interest rates.

The company stated that it had to make a difficult decision to rebase the dividend in order to ensure it was covered by earnings and could grow sustainably from this level. By cutting dividends, LABS aims to have additional financial flexibility to deliver on its strategy effectively.

Despite these challenges, LABS reported strong financial performance in its annual results for the year ending on 31 December. The company saw strong growth in its portfolio with an increase in net asset value of £6m and a rise in revenue of £4m. Additionally, LABS’s occupancy rate remained high at 98%.

However, despite these positive results, LABS still faced significant challenges such as economic uncertainty and high interest rates. These factors made it difficult for occupiers to make rental decisions and delayed payments for some properties. As a result, LABS had to take action to ensure that its dividend payments were covered by earnings and could continue to grow sustainably from this level.

Overall, Life Science Reit (LABS) made a difficult but necessary decision by halving its dividends for 2023. By doing so, the company can have additional financial flexibility to deliver on its strategy effectively while also ensuring long-term sustainability.
