Closure of Airport Hwy. impacts Swanton businesses

The final phase of the sewer separation project in Swanton, Ohio is currently underway at a major intersection on Airport Highway at S. Main Street in Toledo. This closure is causing concern among local business owners who worry about the impact on their storefronts due to limited traffic flow.

Cat Kania, owner of CK Sweets, expressed her concerns stating that if people are not able to access their location from Main Street, they may have trouble finding their store. Kamran Durrani of Stop by Mart also shared his concerns as he relies heavily on the flow of passing traffic for his convenience store. He mentioned that during the summer, many people stop by for cold drinks and snacks.

The intersection is expected to remain closed for 30 days while the project is completed. Business owners fear that this extended closure will have a negative effect on their businesses. Durrani emphasized the importance of customer traffic for his store’s financial success and he worries about the impact of the road closure on his revenue.

Despite the challenges, the Swanton Chamber of Commerce is encouraging people on social media to support local businesses during this time. Detour routes have been provided for both westbound and eastbound traffic, as well as for SR 64 northbound traffic. Business owners are hopeful for the community’s support during this temporary closure.
