The Purple and Gold faced off in Game 2 of the LSU Baseball Fall World Series at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field. The Purple’s pitching duo of Christian Little and Aiden Moffett combined for 10 strikeouts in five innings, securing a hard-fought 3-2 win for the Purple on Sunday. This victory gave the Purple a commanding 2-0 lead in the series, following their victory in Game 1 on Friday night with a score of 2-1.
With the six-week fall practice period now complete, LSU, the reigning National Champion, will open the 2024 season on Friday, February 16 against VMI in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field. Little, a senior from St. Louis, Mo., started on the mound for the Purple and allowed no earned runs on two hits with seven strikeouts. Moffett, a sophomore from Mount Olive, Miss., worked the final two innings and gave up no runs on no hits with three strikeouts.
The Purple took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning as rightfielder Jake Brown lined an RBI single and shortstop Michael Braswell III lifted a sacrifice fly. Although the Gold tied things up in the top of second with a run-scoring double from centerfield by junior left fielder Brennan Benson, the Purple reclaimed their lead in the bottom of second with another run-scoring single from centerfielder Mic Paul.
Junior left-hander Justin Loer led the Gold’s pitching effort by recording seven strikeouts in his 2.1 relief innings performance. Both teams played valiantly throughout
