The Kansas Department of Agriculture’s Division of Conservation (KDA-DOC) has announced the availability of funding for commercial feedlots and dairy operations to improve livestock water efficiency technology. This initiative, known as the Kansas Livestock Water Efficiency Pilot Project, aims to promote water conservation in the state and address water challenges through cost share assistance and incentive payments.
Eligible applicants must have a current livestock water right with the state of Kansas and applications will be accepted until July 31, 2024. To qualify, applicants must also have an existing large-scale livestock watering system that they wish to upgrade by purchasing high-efficiency livestock waterers and water recycling systems. Equipment purchases made before approval by KDA-DOC are not eligible for this funding.
The project is funded through the State Water Plan Fund, which is administered by KDA-DOC in consultation with the State Conservation Commission. Those interested in applying for this irrigation technology cost share funding can find more information and details on eligibility at www.agriculture.ks.gov/DOCLivestockWater or contact Dave Jones at David.Jones@ks.gov for more information about how to apply for this important program that aims to conserve one of the state’s most precious resources – water!
