Memorial Day 2024: What You Need to Know About Retail, Banking, and Delivery Closures

St. Johns County is set to welcome its first Costco warehouse store on August 3, 2022. This expansion marks a significant milestone for the retail giant as it continues to grow its reach in new areas.

As Memorial Day approaches, many people are looking forward to the unofficial start of summer. This federal holiday, which falls on the last Monday of May, is a time to honor members of the US armed forces who have died serving their country in wars. This year, Memorial Day falls on May 27th and is a day when many students are out of school and office workers have the day off.

While most national retailers will be open for business on Memorial Day 2024, Costco warehouse stores will be closed. It’s important to check with local grocers and retailers for any closures or modified hours that may affect your plans. On this day, major retailers like Walmart and Target will have their doors open to customers, while Food Lion and most Kroger grocery stores will also be operating during regular hours. Aldi stores will have limited hours.

In terms of financial markets, the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will not be trading on Memorial Day. Banks, including the Federal Reserve and most major banks, will be closed as well. However, ATMs and online banking services will still be available for use, allowing customers to access their funds.

The United States Postal Service will not be delivering mail on Memorial Day, and most UPS shipping services will also be unavailable. Limited UPS stores may be open, but UPS express critical will be available for emergency shipments that require fast delivery.
