Metsä Board, a subsidiary of the Metsä Group, is investing approximately EUR 60 million in the renovation of its folding carton machine located in Simpele. This investment forms part of a larger program to modernize the cardboard factory that was announced on March 21. The renovation is expected to commence immediately and be completed in the second half of 2025.
The goal of this investment is to improve the quality of the folding board, increase production efficiency and enable the replacement of fossil fuels in the production process. Following the renovation, the factory’s production capacity will increase by about 10,000 tons, bringing the annual production capacity of Simpele folding carton to approximately 310,000 tons.
This decision to invest in the future of cardboard production reflects Metsä Board’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. The company aims to enhance production capabilities and sustainability through this program that will be implemented over ten years. The investment represents a significant step towards improving operations and environmental impact at the folding carton machine in Simpele.
