On Monday, November 20th, Jane Bentham of the Global Mining Review published an article announcing that Freeport-McMoRan had awarded Metso an order for a tankhouse material handling solution to their El Paso electrorefinery in Texas, USA. The order, worth over €10 million, is included in Metso’s 4Q23 orders received and falls under the Minerals segment.
Metso’s scope of delivery includes Outotec Anode Preparation and Cathode Stripping Machines, both based on proven designs that ensure high safety and long-term reliability. These machines utilize modern robotic electrode handling to optimize layout and material handling efficiency in the existing refinery.
Mikko Rantaharju, Vice President of Hydrometallurgy business line at Metso, expressed his excitement about the collaboration with Freeport-McMoRan on this important project. “We are confident that our technology will ensure high efficiency and quality of copper production in the El Paso copper electrorefinery after modernization,” he said. “The solution will combine our long-term experience with modern robot technology to meet the material handling requirements of the existing tankhouse.”
