Microsoft has announced that Sam Altman, co-founder and former CEO of OpenAI, will join the company to lead a new AI research team. The news comes just three days after Altman was ousted as CEO of the startup.

OpenAI, which developed ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence (AI) tool, has been backed by several billion dollars in investments from Microsoft. The company’s board of directors dismissed Altman on Friday, stating that he was not “consistently honest in his communications” and had lost their confidence in managing the company.

Following Altman’s dismissal, several people in leadership positions at OpenAI also announced their departure. Among them was Greg Brockman, who co-founded the company with Altman. The first version of ChatGPT was launched on November 30, 2022, which marked the start of the race in Artificial Intelligence.
