In the 2024 Intercollegiate Broadcasting System convention held in New York City, Mississippi State University students at WMSV radio station won first place for Best Sports Talk Program. This achievement was a result of the hard work and dedication of three broadcasters – Elizabeth Keen, Tanner Marlar, and Aaliyan Mohammed – who hosted the program “Maroon and White Tonight.”
The Department of Communication at Mississippi State University expressed their pride in the students’ accomplishment. The program was created, produced, and hosted by the students after they took a pilot class in sports announcing. Terry Likes, head of the department, commended them for their initiative.
Mississippi State University had three additional finalists at the IBS convention: Olivia Beck was recognized for Best Newscast, Amelia Middleton received an award for Best Campus/Community News, and the MSU TV Center was a finalist for Best Commercial/Promotion. With over 3,000 entries received this year, IBS is an organization that supports college and high school media outlets.
