On Saturday morning, the car show Motors for Minds was held at El Monte Park in Lakeside with the goal of supporting firefighter mental health. The event aimed to raise $20,000 for San Diego County firefighters and combat the stigma surrounding conversations about mental health issues within the firefighting community.
The founder of Motors for Minds, Justin Loftis, is a San Diego Fire-Rescue engineer who recognized the need for improved mental health support for firefighters. After witnessing several cases of firefighters struggling with mental health issues and taking their own lives, Loftis was inspired to start the event to create a platform for open discussions about mental health in a supportive community environment.
All funds raised from Motors for Minds will be donated to Firefighter Aid, an organization dedicated to providing local first responders with access to health resources such as cancer support, education, and mental health services. The event will come to a close at 2:30 p.m., but donations are still being accepted online for those who wish to contribute to this important cause.
