Natural Disasters: Dangerous Floods and Landslides Claim Lives in Russia, Ukraine, and Indonesia

The rains and floods in Ukraine have caused widespread power outages, with over 15,000 people experiencing cuts in the Dnipropetrovsk region. In Russia, emergency evacuations were called in areas affected by dangerous floods near the Kazakhstan border. In Indonesia, landslides triggered by the rains led to casualties in the villages of Tana Turayavi and Sulawesi Province. The final death toll reached 20, with search operations uncovering a mother and her son among the victims.

Deforestation and prolonged heavy rains have exacerbated Indonesia’s susceptibility to landslides during the rainy season, posing a significant risk to residents. The storms and rains in Ukraine caused increased pressure on the energy system, resulting in power outages for thousands of people in 173 villages.
