The 2024 FIM Supermoto World Championship kicked off in Spain with the GP of Comunitat Valenciana in Albaida. Mark Reiner Schmidt of Germany, the number-one plate holder, faced tough competition from French rider Thomas Chareyre on a Honda CRF450R and KTM rider Julen Avila Cortes of Spain.
Chareyre emerged victorious in the opening round of the championship, battling it out with Schmidt to claim the overall win. Avila Cortes finished third overall, while Italian Elia Sammartin and Spanish rider Ferran Cardus rounded out the top five positions.
In the SuperMoto Legends class, Czech rider Petr Vorlicek on a Honda clinched the victory over Great Britain’s Jay Smith on KTM and Scott Murray on Honda. Schmidt finished as the runner-up on a TM bike.
