New Executive Director Chosen by Superior Health Foundation

The Superior Health Foundation (SHF) has announced the appointment of Megan Murphy as its new executive director. Originally from Ironwood, Murphy previously served as the director for community health and capacity building at the Michigan Health Endowment Fund, where she oversaw the development of a $6.5 million grantmaking and nonprofit support program.

Murphy’s extensive 15-plus years of experience in the nonprofit sector make her a perfect fit for the organization, according to Sara Giles, President of SHF Board of Directors. Giles expressed confidence in Murphy’s abilities, praising her vision and strategy to expand the foundation’s reach throughout the Upper Peninsula. She emphasized Murphy’s creativity, drive, and familiarity with the U.P., which will be crucial in achieving SHF’s mission.

Murphy joined the Michigan Health Endowment Fund in 2016 as a grants manager before transitioning to a program officer for their Nutrition and Healthy Lifestyle program in 2018. Her work involved improving access to healthy foods, food security, and nutrition and wellness education in Michigan. Prior to her time at the Health Fund, she held various roles within the nonprofit sector in Grand Rapids, focusing on health, philanthropy, program development, and community engagement.

Expressing her excitement about her new role as Executive Director of SHF, Murphy highlighted her deep connection to the U.P., stating that it is an honor to lead an organization that exclusively targets the health of UP residents. She also emphasized her eagerness to leverage her statewide funding experience to lead SHF into a new chapter while continuing its innovative grant-making approach that has made it stand out among other foundations.
