Two years ago, a 34-year-old male teacher from Ben Tre was diagnosed with end-stage chronic kidney failure and began treatment at Can Tho Central General Hospital. Despite receiving hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, his condition continued to deteriorate until he was placed on the kidney transplant waiting list earlier this year. On April 25th, doctors at Can Tho Central General Hospital performed the first kidney transplant in the Southwest region after four years of preparation.
The successful transplant was announced by the hospital on May 9th, two weeks after the procedure. The donor was the patient’s brother, who also recovered well after the transplant. The cost of the procedure was approximately 270 million VND and was sponsored by donors.
Dr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc, Head of the Department of Nephrology and Urology, emphasized the importance of careful preparation and coordination for the success of the transplant. The patient’s mother expressed her gratitude to the medical team for their dedication to her child. Can Tho Central General Hospital aims to become a leading center for kidney transplants in Vietnam, showcasing their expertise in this field.
