Newtown welcomes Giana Pedevillano, a recent Southern Connecticut State University graduate and Meriden native, to its team of defense against foodborne illnesses. Pedevillano’s career in health promotion at SCSU sparked her interest in environmental and public health, which she pursued as she progressed through her program.
Now with a master’s degree in public health, Pedevillano is focused on creating a clean, healthy, and happy environment for the community. She is redirecting personal care businesses like salons and spas to be inspected by Newtown’s Health District starting September 1. Additionally, she is working towards obtaining her FDA credentials for food service and certifications for soil and septic inspections.
Reflecting on her journey, Pedevillano mentioned that she was not aware of the various professions within public health until she started exploring different majors. She found satisfaction in the idea of helping an entire community rather than working on an individual level. Currently, she is shadowing her mentors at the Health District, expressing gratitude for their guidance in honing her skills as a young professional.
As she transitions into her role as a health inspector in Newtown, Pedevillano is excited about the opportunity to make a positive impact on the community. She believes that her training and experiences have prepared her to contribute effectively to the promotion of public health. Through her dedication and commitment, Pedevillano hopes to enhance the overall well-being of Newtown residents.
